Type 4, easily the most glorified and coveted type of the Enneagram, is unsurprisingly among the most mistyped. There are many reasons for this, but the one I will focus on for this article is one of the least understood: Neurodivergence.

Neurodivergence can take many forms, with the most common divergent neurotypes being autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Awareness of neurodivergence has grown over the last couple of decades, but unfortunately, not fast enough to properly diagnose many members of the current adult generation. Undiagnosed neurodivergence can lead to depression and feelings of being misunderstood, flawed, or defective in some way - feelings that, on the surface, seem to point to Type 4. 

So, let’s look deeper into why this particular mistype may be occurring.
