Fives are well known for avoiding human relationships, preferring to keep their distance from others lest they feel the weight of expectations. While this is undoubtedly true of Fives, the true root of their avoidance is twofold. Firstly, Fives, as one of the three types in the rejection triad along with Twos and Eights, fear that they will be rejected for showing up in spaces as they are. As part of what Oscar Ichazo called the “Adaptation triad” (he also refers to this as the “Doing” center), Fives feel they must do something to contribute meaningfully to the social world. They believe that if they don’t bring something to the table, they will be cast out of the social sphere and left to endure their intense fear of non-existence alone. Fives thus contribute their knowledge, expertise, and perceptions about the world.
